Call For Papers: Edited Anthology in Philosophy and Literature

We are currently seeking finished, previously unpublished articles for an edited anthology under contract, entitled “Transgressing the Limit: Borders and Liminality in Philosophy and Literature.” This article will serve as a substitute piece for an author who has dropped out of the process. As this volume is an interdisciplinary project, we are seeking essays that engage with both philosophical and literary texts. The substitute article must be on one or the other of the following topics, described below:

Topic 1: Borders and Speculative Fiction
The speculative fiction section of the anthology explores the ways in which such fiction is often used to transgress conceptual boundaries, cross ideological borders, and dismantle binary oppositions.

We are particularly interested in articles that approach any of the following topics studied in relation to borders and liminality:

  • Cyborgs and Androids
  • Zombies and the Monstrous
  • Simulation and Simulacra
  • The Other

OR

Topic 2: Borders and Gender/Sexuality
This section of the anthology focuses on theories of border and liminality that disrupt the binaries of gender and sexual identities.

We are particularly interested in articles that approach the following topics:

  • Transgender identity
  • Gender ‘passing’
  • Ecofeminism
  • Radical queer activism
  • Disruptions of patriarchy

The deadline for completed articles (5000-7000 words; MLA style guidelines) is January 30, 2017. Send the article with a 500 word abstract and a brief author bio to: borderprojectabstracts@gmail.com.

Co-editors: Jessica Decker is an assistant professor of philosophy, and Dylan Winchock is a lecturer of literature and border studies, both at California State University, San Marcos.
