It is with deep sorrow that we share the news that feminist phenomenologist and longtime SPEP member, Linda Fisher, passed away peacefully at home in March 2022. At the time of her death, Linda was a Research Professor in the Department of Gender Studies at Central European University in Vienna. Linda far outlived her initial ALS diagnosis in 2005 and presented her paper, “Before/After, Then and Now” as part of the “Living With and Beyond Diagnosis” panel at SPEP’s fall 2021 virtual conference. Here is a link to a tribute from Linda’s CEU colleagues: https://gender.ceu.edu/article/2022-03-28/sad-news-feminist-philosopher-linda-fisher-passed-away A memorial tribute to Linda will also take place at the 2022 SPEP Business Meeting.
This photo was taken during a presentation of Linda’s paper, “Becoming Other: Beauvoir’s Existential Phenomenology of Alterity” (read by her husband, Neil Berlad) at the University of Latvia, Riga, in 2018.
