We invite papers for a special session organized by IAEP at the ISEE conference in Kiel, Germany, July 23-25, 2015.
In the last decades numerous thinkers in the “continental” tradition have begun to consider environmental questions. Areas such as eco-phenomenology, environmental hermeneutics, the “critical theory of nature,” ecofeminism, critical animal studies, and so forth have all seen important work done. The significance of key figures such as Heidegger, Levinas, Derrida, Adorno, Deleuze, Habermas and others for environmental questions has been an important focus of scholarly inquiry. Questions about the significance of “place,” about the meaning of “nature” and the “natural,” about the status and role of non-human animals, about technology and the place of humans (and of humanism) in a more-than-human world, have all undergone sustained examination and discussion.
We invite contributions that examine recent work in this area, as well as contributions that point towards re-imaginings of the future of continental environmental philosophy, asking what new research questions and challenges might arise for the field in a new century that may be marked above all by new environmental problems.
