CALL FOR NOMINATIONS AND PROPOSALS: NEW EDITORIAL TEAM for HYPATIA: A JOURNAL OF FEMINIST PHILOSOPHY

Hypatia: A Journal of Feminist Philosophy is seeking an editorial team to serve a term of five years, beginning January 1, 2024 (following a training period starting on September 1 2023). The journal issues a call for nominations for editors every five years in order to consider new proposals and directions for the journal, and to provide opportunities for others to be involved. All proposals will be judged on their merits. We encourage self-nominations as well as nominations of others. Interested persons may apply as individuals and/or in teams.

*Nominations are due June 1, 2022, proposals on September 1, 2022. After a first round of discussion of the proposals, the Board of Associate Editors will come back with suggestions for a subset of applicants by mid-October. Final proposals will then be due December 31, 2022.

Hypatia is the preeminent journal for feminist philosophy. Published by Cambridge University Press, it has a wide international readership and a robust institutional subscription base. It serves as an important resource not only for philosophers, but for all those interested in philosophical issues raised by feminism broadly construed, including interdisciplinary women’s and gender studies scholars. The journal publishes work covering a wide range of philosophical traditions and topics, along with interdisciplinary feminist work, and therefore we encourage nominations (including self-nominations) of editors who have diverse interests and expertise in sub-areas and methodologies of philosophy and feminist studies. Hypatia is committed to the inclusion of marginalized and underrepresented feminist perspectives, including trans, critical race, transnational, critical disability, decolonial, and queer scholarship in feminist philosophy, and we especially encourage nominations of those whose scholarship and/or experiences include marginalization or underrepresentation in feminist philosophy.

This search will be conducted by the entire Board of Associate Editors. All interested parties, even if not yet committed to submitting a proposal, are encouraged to reach out to the Chair of the Search Committee, María del Rosario Acosta López (mariadea@ucr.edu), who will facilitate sessions with the current Editorial Team to share information about editorial duties and division of labor, address questions and concerns, and offer feedback on draft nominations and proposals, at all stages of the process. The Board of Associate Editors is eager to engage with a broad and diverse range of candidates, as the search process itself represents a key moment for learning from and dialoguing with Hypatia’s readership about how we can best serve our communities and uphold our mission.

Candidates should have a record of publication in feminist philosophy broadly construed. Some previous editorial experience is desirable. Individuals constituting an editorial team need not be members of the same institution.

If you are nominating yourselves, please send brief CVs for each member of the editorial team. Also, please include a statement of interest that indicates how the work of editing the journal will be shared and where the journal will be housed, as well as brief statements regarding your previous relevant experience and the directions in which you would like to take Hypatia. Candidates should also indicate what types of institutional support they expect to receive.

If you are nominating others, please send an email briefly stating your reasons for nominating them, as well as their institutional/email addresses and telephone numbers. We will contact them and request that they provide the same materials as self-nominators, should they wish to be considered.
