CFP: Aisthema, International Journal, Volume 2022: Michel Henry (1922-2002)

In 2022 will be celebrated the 100th anniversary of the birth and the 20th anniversary of the death of Michel Henry. Aisthema therefore is glad to devote a special issue to the French philosopher and his thought, examining his important and multi-faceted contribution in several field of philosophy (theoretical, practical, aesthetics, political and social philosophy, philosophy of religion). All this, following the sequence established by the five volumes of the French edition of Henry’s Phénoménologie de la Vie, published by the Presses Universitaires de France: phenomenology, subjectivity, art and aesthetics, political philosophy, ethics and moral philosophy, religion.

Some questions that we hope will find an answer in this issue are:

– the real Husserlian “heritage” in Henry’s thought, in relation to his Material Phenomenology;
– the scenarios opened by the question of the “subjective body” in the reflections of the “sciences” for which this body is a constant and daily thematic object;
– what relation exists between subjectivity and intersubjectivity, and how to think about this relation;
– new questions, previously unseen, that arise from Henry’s ethical thinking, and the tools they can offer to understand socio-political questions;
– how, and in what sense, can the Henry’s aesthetic reflection be considered truly phenomenological;
– to what extent is the Henry’s description of religious experience still phenomenological;
– to what results – even the critical ones – does the Phenomenology of Life lead or is it supposed to lead, when we try to “apply” it to the problems of the contemporary life that we live.

Contributions aiming to compare Henry’s thought to that of other thinkers will obviously be welcome, as well as those that will highlight – in a creative way – aspects of his thought little known or studied.
