27th International Conference of the Simone de Beauvoir Society: Reading Beauvoir in the 21st Century

CFP: 27th International Conference of the Simone de Beauvoir Society: “Reading Beauvoir in the 21st Century”

Dates of Conference: June 2-4 2022

The conference will be hosted by the Philosophy Department at John Carroll University. The conference will be a fully virtual event.

This international conference seeks submissions for papers on any aspect of Beauvoir’s work, as well as studies, critiques, and applications of her thinking. We hope to attract submissions that represent a broad range of perspectives, including but not limited to historical, literary, and comparative analyses of Beauvoir’s life and works; studies of the impact of her ideas during her own time; examinations of new research orientations such as “queer theory,” “critical race theory,” “postcolonial and decolonial theories,” and “post-feminism;” and current efforts to redefine and reshape the agendas of women’s political movements. We are especially interested in work that deploys Beauvoir’s multifarious writings in order to address specific, concrete, contemporary challenges.

To submit a paper proposal, please send an abstract of no more than 350-500 words in English to Drs. Deniz Durmuş and Dianna Taylor at beauvoir2022@gmail.com by April 15th, 2022.

Proposals will be reviewed by the conference program committee: Deniz Durmuş, Qrescent Mali Mason, Marine Rouch, and Dianna Taylor.
