Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Philosophy
“Gilles Deleuze and Cosmology”
Two fellowships of $20 000 (CAD) for the 2022-2023 academic year
AOS: Gilles Deleuze; AOC: Contemporary continental philosophy and/or philosophy of science
DESCRIPTION
The international and interdisciplinary research group “Gilles Deleuze and Cosmology” invites applications for a 12-month postdoctoral research fellowship. The general objective of this research group formed by philosophers and physicists is to explain the role of cosmology in Deleuze’s thought. More specifically, the research intends to explore Deleuze’s redefinition of traditional transcendent cosmologies, which speculate on the ontological superiority of heavens, in favour of an immanent experience of the world and the universe, which makes of the geodynamic and “cosmic” earth an object of philosophical investigation. This project addresses the cosmological aspects of Deleuze’s thought from complementary perspectives, which include: philosophy, science, art, and ethics. The research establishes local, national, and international partnerships in and outside of the academic milieu. Our research group, affiliated with Laurentian University in Sudbury, Canada, is in the midst of a 5-year research program funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research of Canada (SSHRC).
This postdoctoral research fellowship provides highly qualified personnel with opportunities to develop individual projects within the research theme, broadly conceived. Apart from leading his/her own research project, the successful candidate will be fully integrated to the research group and participate in the organization of public events (workshops, art exhibition, conference, publication projects, etc.), which are part of the research program.
