Assistant Professor of Philosophy – Southwestern

Southwestern University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Philosophy with an emphasis in Feminist Theory to begin August 2022. We are particularly interested in applicants whose teaching and research includes Black, Chicana, or other non-white/western feminist traditions. The successful candidate will actively contribute, as teacher and scholar, to our small but dynamic department, which seeks to model critical, historically grounded encounters between the Continental European tradition of philosophy and other philosophical traditions, between philosophy and other academic disciplines, and between theory and social, political, and cultural issues in the present. We are seeking applicants interested in contributing to a range of interdisciplinary programs, including Latin American and Border Studies, Race and Ethnicity Studies, Feminist Studies, Environmental Studies, and/or International Studies, who are passionate about being a teacher-scholar in the liberal arts context, and who have a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as intrinsic aspects of excellence in teaching, mentoring, and scholarship.

The annual course load includes five sections on a 3/2 schedule. For full consideration, applications should be submitted by November 1st, 2021. Candidates must have a PhD or ABD in Philosophy or a closely allied field (with at least 18 credits of graduate coursework in Philosophy), a demonstrated record of commitment to and excellence in teaching undergraduate students, a demonstrated commitment to mentoring students from underrepresented groups, including racially minoritized students, and cultivating inclusion and belonging, and an active research agenda.
