The Department of Philosophy at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte invites applications for a tenure-track position, rank Assistant Professor, beginning Fall 2022. AOS: Ethics and Data Science, with a strong preference for non-ideal approaches and for research that is significantly grounded in philosophical traditions traditionally underrepresented in the field (e.g., feminist, queer/trans, non-Western, African-American, Indigenous, disability studies, etc., including innovative applied work). AOC: Open. The successful candidate will have a tenure home in the Department of Philosophy, with a workload split of 70% in Philosophy and 30% in the University’s interdisciplinary School of Data Science.
In addition to the required AOS above, candidates must: (1) have a doctoral degree in philosophy or related discipline at the time of appointment; (2) provide evidence of scholarly activity appropriate for a tenure-track position in a philosophy department; (3) provide evidence of potential for successful teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels; and (4) demonstrate a commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion as values in the department, college, and university. Finalists will also be asked during their screening interview to discuss how the topics of diversity and inclusion are incorporated into their teaching and research. A record of publication in peer-reviewed journals is preferred, but not required. Workload for pre-tenure and for research intensive faculty is two courses per semester, at all levels (including graduate seminars), plus typical service duties. Salary competitive.
