Instructor of Philosophy–International College of Beijing

The University of Colorado Denver Department of Philosophy invites applications for a non-tenure-track teaching position at the International College of Beijing (ICB). The job will commence in Beijing in Spring 2023, with arrival required potentially several weeks before then due to evolving COVID-19 travel and quarantine requirements. Depending on the performance of the individual hired, multi-year renewals are possible.

We seek to hire a colleague who can teach a wide range of Philosophy courses to support the core liberal arts curriculum and deliver the philosophy minor, such as Introduction to Philosophy, Ancient Greek Philosophy, and Modern European Philosophy. Above all else, we seek a dynamic teacher committed to best practices in student-centered pedagogy and advancing intercultural philosophical learning to support students in developing critical thinking skills. ICB is a unique international collaboration, so the ideal candidate will teach and mentor students to use the tools of philosophy in their lives, remaining open to the surprises that intercultural exchange can bring.

The teaching load is 8 courses per academic year (4 in fall and 4 in spring). The instructor is responsible for teaching a range of philosophy courses and will also assume 10% of their duties in service roles selected in consultation with the Department Chair. These service roles may include advising students on the philosophy minor, serving as Faculty Director of the ICB Philosophy Club, corresponding with ICB students transferring to Denver, overseeing our annual Student Film Festival, working on the annual ICB newsletter, outcomes assessment projects, and other tasks in conversation with the Chair.
