Louisiana State University. Assistant Professor – Social and Political Philosophy

The Department of Philosophy & Religious Studies at Louisiana State University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position that begins Fall 2022. Area of Specialization: Social and Political Philosophy (including: philosophy of race/gender; social inequality; philosophy, politics, economics [PPE]; philosophy of law) Area of Competence: Philosophy of Law

The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active record of publication and to teach two courses per semester (four courses per year).

Required Qualifications:

1. Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Philosophy prior to appointment.

2. Research specialization in Social and Political Philosophy and evidence of ability to teach advanced undergraduate (and graduate) courses in the same.

3. Ability to teach courses relevant to our undergraduate concentration in Law, Ethics and Social Justice (LESJ), including Philosophy of Law.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Evidence of effective undergraduate teaching

2. Evidence of ability and strong interest in teaching a diverse classroom.

3. Publications (including articles under review)

Our department is growing—we are hiring for two positions this year and added a position in Ancient Philosophy last year. We have a substantial Masters’ Program and a steadily increasing number of philosophy majors, and minors, many of whom are drawn to the LESJ concentration.
