Europe out of Bounds: Continuities of Continental Thought

Most of the English-speaking world understands continental philosophy only from German and French sources. This collection seeks submissions that investigate how that tradition is transformed if we trace the impact of continental philosophy from further east. How does this expanded European context change how we understand what makes this philosophy "continental"? Of particular interest are essays that engage with the legacies of Husserl, Heidegger, and Derrida (e.g., phenomenology, hermeneutics, and deconstruction) within what we typically understand as central or eastern Europe.

Submit abstracts, prepared for blind review, of 350-500 words by October 1, 2011, to Frank Garrett (frank.garrett@fulbrightmail.org). Include 3-5 keywords. (Example: Patočka, phenomenology, Husserl, Czechoslovakia.) Initial inquiries are welcome via e-mail. Notification of acceptance will be sent by November 15.

Accepted essays will be due June 15, 2012. Complete essays should be 3500-5000 words and follow Chicago Manual of Style, 16th ed.
