Second Bochum Early Career Researcher Workshop in Philosophy of Mind and of Cognitive Science

Date: June 13th – June 14th, 2019

Location: Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Germany

Submission deadline: March 17th, 2019

Keynote speakers: Onur Güntürkün and Rebekka Hufendiek

This workshop offers early career researchers in philosophy of mind and cognitive science an opportunity for in-depth discussion and feedback on their work. Each accepted speaker will be paired with an early career researcher from the RUB working on a connected topic. The paired speakers will receive each other’s papers in advance, and prepare a detailed commentary. Each paper will then get 1 hour: 30 minutes for the speaker’s talk, 10 minutes for the paired speaker’s commentary, and 20 minutes for discussion.

We invite papers in philosophy of mind and cognitive science, broadly understood. Possible topics include, but are not limited to:

Epistemology of perception

Mental representations

The role of language and metaphors in cognition

Social cognition and joint action

The problem of consciousness

Naturalization of intentionality

Animal cognition and comparative psychology

Funds have been requested and we hope to support participants in travelling to and staying in Bochum.

Conference organizers:

Krys Dolega, Judith Martens, Andrea Pace Giannotta, Luke Roelofs, Elmarie Venter, Alfredo Vernazzani, Julia Wolf
