The Department of Philosophy at the Pennsylvania State University has notable strengths in Continental Philosophy (including phenomenology, existentialism, the Frankfurt School, social theory, and contemporary French philosophy), critical philosophy of race (including Africana and African American philosophy and political thought, Latin American philosophy, and Latina feminisms), and feminist philosophy. Our program provides rigorous training in the history of philosophy as the basis for research in these areas. The department is widely recognized as a leader in promoting diversity in the discipline as a result of our successful efforts to recruit, train, mentor, and place graduate students from underrepresented groups in philosophy.
