SPEP Affiliated Society Application 2024 (docx format)
SPEP Affiliated Society Application 2024 (pdf format)
Due to the high demand from other philosophical organizations to participate in SPEP, we require that each organization wishing to participate in SPEP’s annual meeting apply for inclusion for that year.
The deadline for the submission of applications for the 2023 meeting is: February 15, 2024. Please note that the application must be submitted to the SPEP Executive Committee (via email attachment to the SPEP Secretary-Treasurer) each year. The email address is: mcmahonspep@gmail.com
We will contact you by April 1, 2024 to inform you whether your philosophical society will be able to meet at SPEP. If given a time slot, you will be expected to send your full program (titles, names, and affiliations of panelists) by May 15, 2024 at the latest to the graduate assistant at spepassistant@gmail.com. Any A/V requests MUST also be made at that time (NOTE: Affiliated societies will be held responsible for A/V costs should SPEP be unable to procure free equipment from the local host, which is most often the case).
All affiliated societies with the exception of SPHS will be given a complimentary meeting room for approximately three hours on Thursday morning (9:00 am – 12:00 pm) OR Friday evening (7:30 pm – 10:30 pm).
Affiliate program participants must register for the SPEP conference, which includes becoming members of SPEP.
Affiliate contact persons must be members of SPEP in good standing.
NOTE: Organizers are responsible to check (by asking those they invite) that the papers on their program are NOT on the main program. SPEP program participants may appear on the affiliate program, but only with a different paper.
The following criteria will be used to evaluate the application to be a SPEP satellite group. The criteria are not ranked in importance.
- The length of the group’s association with SPEP. The SPEP Executive Committee will consider the number of years the group has had a satellite session at the SPEP annual meeting.
- The group’s meeting schedule. The SPEP Executive Committee will consider the opportunities the group has to meet at other times during the year, aside from the satellite session at the SPEP annual meeting.
- The group’s primary area of investigation augmenting or enriching the SPEP annual meeting program. The SPEP Executive Committee will evaluate how the group’s area of investigation complements the areas covered by the SPEP annual meeting program or, on the contrary, duplicates aspects of the SPEP program.
- The group’s attendance at the satellite session at the SPEP annual meeting. The SPEP Executive Committee will evaluate, on the basis of past attendance at the satellite group’s session, the level of interest in this group’s philosophical area to SPEP members. The attendance records for the satellite groups will be reviewed by the SPEP Executive Committee each year.
